| Tokyo, Japan last week |
| 11.11.2008 00:03:54 | |
|
Well, last week I was in Tokyo! I flew out of Dulles airport on Saturday, November 1st and arrived Sunday, November 2nd. Fortunately, Monday was a national holiday there so I didn't have to work. One of my co-workers from our Japan office was kind enough to spend the day with me on Monday, showing me around town. We did a little shopping and just enjoyed the nice weather. The rest of the week was pretty much business. The days start a little later and end a little later than what I've been accustomed to. For example, I usually start work between 7:30-8:30... but my Japan office typically starts after 9:00 and many people don't leave until after 7:00 p.m. ! ! ! One thing that I felt was pretty cool was that many people really don't need cars there. yes, plenty of people do have cars and drive regularly, but MANY more don't even need them because of how elaborate the Subway/train systems are there. After a week away from my wife & son, I am happy to get back. I'm not feeling too great after all the travel so I am taking a couple days off to get rested. Take care all! | Off to Dallas! |

Well, I'm getting on a plane again. at least this time it's only 2 days onsite. So I will flight out Monday evening, work Tue+Wed, and fly home on Thursday. I'm not terribly thrilled having to fly around the country without my family, but I try to look on the bright side... I'm earning miles that can be put towards family vacations!!!
This past summer, my round trip airfare from Virginia to Miami cost me $5 thanks to mileage!! That really helped our vacation budget out! Now, with all my work travel, I try to consistently use certain providers within my company's regulations. Fortunately, this includes United & American Airlines for air fare, Marriott and Hilton for hotels, and National & Avis for car rentals :)

| San Francisco this week! |
| 10.09.2008 07:02:33 | |
|
Well, I'm traveling on business again :( This time, I had to do the coast - coast flight out to the San Francisco area. I guess it worked out pretty well because I had an opportunity to spend an afternoon at my company headquarters in Silicon Valley ... Okay Palo Alto :)
My timing was actually quite good because we just happened to have a couple of my team members from other states/countries visiting the Palo Alto office at the same time! Afternoon one went very well catching up with co-workers that I don't see very often, or those that I hadn't ever had an opportunity to meet.
Today, tomorrow, and Thursday are all being spent with a client getting VMware Lifecycle Manager setup and doing a technical Q&A session for the client and co-workers. It's rough being the only expert on this product in the U.S. , but at the same time it's rewarding and reassuring to know that what I know is valuable :D Tags:

Well, I recently flew down to Austin on business.. unfortunately, I was kept so busy, I didn't get a chance to do any of the tourist type site seeing. I had really hoped to see that Bats come out, but was stuck on conference calls in the evenings :( Perhaps next time I'll get a chance to check them out. Tags: Hits: 301 | Read more... |

| Antivirus and Antispyware |

Hey there everyone, just a quick update here. I've been a user of Sunbelt-Software's CounterSpy software in the past because it was an awesome product. I actually PAID for a license for all the active computers in my house a few years ago.. well, I let things slip and regretted it! After years of helping companies cleanup spyware, I actually had to spend some time cleaning up our home machines. Time to bite the bullet and get some up-to-date software. Since I had good experiences with Sunbelt's products in the past, I decided to click on the "Vipre" banner at the bottom of this website - if you don't see it right now, refresh the page a couple times until you do see it and click the banner. You'll be taken to the product page to check it out. Anyway, I clicked the banner and went over to their site to download a demo copy of Vipre. The nice thing about their new product is that it is Antivirus AND Antispyware rolled into one slick application. While I was there, I grabbed a copy of their iHateSpam software as well. It works with Outlook Express, and all the regular versions of Outlook we have here, including 2003 and 2007 under Vista. The results were clear, and customer reviews as well as magazine reviews spoke positively about the products. Before my trial on these products ended, I went ahead and bought 3 copies of the Vipre Antivirus / Antispyware program and 2 copies of the iHateSpam software. I went with 2 year subscriptions of both programs to ensure my home computers stay protected. If you're running outdated antispam, antivirus, or antispyware on your computers... or worse, you're not running any, click that banner right away and get a copy installed ASAP ! ! ! Take care everyone... and, by the way, if you're logged into the site, click the Blog menu link and start posting to your blog!!!!!! -- BurkeTags: sunbelt-software | antispam | antispyware | antivirus Hits: 306 | Read more... |

| Welcome Back to AirForce Chat |

Hello everyone, I know that this website has been intermittent over the last couple years, but hopefully that will be changing now. You see, I've always managed this site in my spare time since I was ONE of the co-founders of the #airforce chat channel on the Undernet IRC network. My wife has put a considerable amount of time into making this new website for us. Over $3,500 has been invested in the development of the new site and all the features you see here. Please take a moment to browse around and post some feedback here so we can see how you feel about the new site and what else you'd like to see! Thanks! Tags:
